Deepen therapeutic presence & unlock your creativity in the room with clients

We’ll unlearn blocks to deeper therapeutic presence by exploring our relationships to four realms that profoundly affect how we show up in our role as therapists.

The four realms are:

• Relationship with Power

  • How do you use and share power with clients? What have you learned about power? Do you ever go power-under or power-over with clients? What supports you in being power-with?

• Relationship with Of-courseness

  • How are you in relationship with reality as it is? How are clients showing up in coherent ways even when you don’t understand it yet? Internal systems are always coherent even if we don’t understand how yet.

• Relationship with Not-knowing

  • How okay are you with not-knowing what’s happening in the room and where the work is going? This affects the moves you make moment to moment.

• Relationship with Self

  • How do you feel towards yourself moment to moment in the room? Are you in relationship with the inner stirrings while you’re with clients? This affects how you do every intervention you make.

When we say yes to our role, we have to be in relationship with all four of these things.

We’ll look at inner stirrings in our clinical work and what realms are activated with the stirring.

For example, let’s say a therapist is secretly annoyed with their client for not accessing self-compassion. After the therapist looked within, they saw that their relationships with of-courseness, not-knowing, and self were activated and sticky. They were not seeing that it’s coherent that the client isn’t able to access self-compassion. They were scared of what would happen if the client can’t access self-compassion. They were not in relationship with self with kindness or curiosity as they were feeling scared and annoyed. This complex inner experience was leading to the clinician dissociating after being annoyed when the client couldn't access self-compassion.

Once we’ve looked at the connection between our stirrings and the four realms, we’ll discover how we want to greet our stirrings with compassion and care, as a way to unlock more creativity in the room with clients.

Part of our work will be to support you in developing new skills and practices that support self-trust, deeper presence, and creativity in your work.
